Cheap car hire Ayers Rock from compare car rentals

Ayers Rock is perhaps the world’s most recognisable monolith. It sits in the centre of Australia in southwest Northern Territory and is completely surrounded by red desert standing more than 300m over the desert floor. You can fly here and pick up cheap car hire at Ayers Rock.

Ayers Rock is known as Uluru in Aboriginal speak and can be driven to from Alice Springs or by car hire at Ayers Rock. It sits within the Aboriginal owned Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and is a sandstone formation that visitors can climb. It takes a good 30 or 40 minutes to get to the trig point in the centre of the roof for those of average fitness.

Views from the top are staggering and you can see King’s Canyon and Olgas in the distance. Those with cars can also drive partially around by car hire at Ayers Rock or park up and walk around.

The best time to see Ayers Rock is during a sunrise or sunset when the colours of the rock change dramatically. Seldom few are lucky enough to see the rock during a rainstorm. Accommodation near the rock is at campsites or hotel resorts, or you could drive your car rental at Ayers Rock and stay in Alice Springs, five hours away to the northeast.

Before heading out to Alice, however, visiting the Watarrka National Park for a walk in King’s Canyon is a must. It is off another road between Ayers Rock and Alice Springs and can easily be visited by car hire at Ayers Rock.
